It was confirmed that President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol met with the head of the 5 economic groups on the 21st.
According to a business official on the 18th, it was reported that the president-elect Yoon’s party contacted the Federation of Korean Industries and promoted a meeting with five economic organizations. The FKI informed the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises, and the Korea Employers’ Federation of the meeting with Yoon-elect and confirmed their attendance.
In business circles, the FKI Chairman Huh Chang-soo, the Korean Chamber of Commerce Chairman Choi Tae-won, Koo Ja-yeol Chairman of the Martial Arts Association, Kim Ki-moon, the mid-term Central Chairman, and Sohn Kyung-shik, the Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries are expected to meet with Yoon. However, the method and location of the meeting have not been decided yet.
Immediately following the election, each economic group individually promoted a meeting with President-elect Yoon, but it was decided to hold a meeting centered on the FKI. After former President Roh Moo-hyun, the presidents toured each economic group in turn or held meetings in the form of an integrated meeting. Former President Roh had a meeting with five economic organizations at once, and former President Lee Myung-bak and former President Park Geun-hye visited each organization in turn. Former President Lee visited the FKI first when he was elected, and former President Park was the first to visit the mid-term Korean Federation when he was elected and said, “I will become the president of a small business.” President Moon Jae-in took office immediately without a takeover committee, and he promised to “break the link between politics and business,” and meetings with the business world were not frequent.
In the business world, there is an observation that the status of the FKI can be restored with this meeting as a starting point. The FKI has been excluded from the current government’s overseas tours, New Year’s parties, and meetings with heads of economic groups because it was involved in the establishment of the Mir Foundation and the K-Sports Foundation at the time of ‘Choi Soon-sil Gate’ in 2016.
