Fans of souped-up cars kept the police on their toes over the weekend.
The weather presented itself with mild temperatures, even at night. In addition, “Customized” took place on Friday and Saturday in the Salzburg exhibition center: a trade fair for all tuning enthusiasts, i.e. for fans of individually modified, technically refined cars that have often been heavily upgraded in terms of horsepower.
Meetings of the tuning and roadrunner scene regularly call the police into action. As early as Friday night, a number of patrols in the city of Salzburg and in nearby Flachgau carried out priority checks. And as is so often the case, it turned out that numerous drivers of the souped-up cars not only committed traffic violations, but were also often driving illegally tuned vehicles. After close traffic controls and radar measurements, the police press office issued “no fewer than around 340 reports. 271 reports concerned speeding alone,” said police spokesman Hans Wolfgruber. After checking the cars of the tuning fans who had traveled from several federal states and also Bavaria, 19 vehicles were presented to the state’s inspection body; twelve cars had their number plates removed on site due to imminent danger. Fast judges pronounced penalties totaling 8,650 euros in this regard. 103 alcohol tests were done, three drivers were intoxicated or on drugs.
The tuning fans then met in Saalfelden and Kaprun on Sunday night. The police once more reported a number of administrative violations (intentionally caused misfires, spinning around, drifting, “burn-outs” at the stand, excessive noise, etc.). The scene first met with at least 100 vehicles in the parking lot of the Kitzsteinhorn and then with approx. 130 vehicles in the Moserboden car park area.
