Your Excellency,
During my visit to Lebanon between the twenty-fifth and the twenty-seventh of July, in my capacity as the envoy of the President of the French Republic for Lebanon, I held meetings with representatives of all political forces occupying parliamentary seats in the Lebanese Parliament, including those you represent.
In view of the urgent need to get out of the impasse at the political level, which exposes the future of your country to great risks, I suggested to them that I invite them in the month of September to a meeting aimed at crystallizing a consensus on the challenges that the future President of the Republic must face and the priority projects that must be undertaken, and therefore, necessary specifications in order to achieve this.
This meeting, which revolves exclusively around these issues, aims to provide a climate of confidence and allow the House of Representatives to meet in the aftermath and within favorable conditions for holding open elections that allow a quick exit from the crisis.
In order to prepare for this meeting, I address this letter to you formally requesting your written answers, as brief as possible, to the following two questions:
What are, according to your political team, the priority projects related to the term of the President of the Republic during the next six years?
– What are the qualities and competencies that the future president of the republic should have in order to undertake these projects?
I thank you in advance for sending your answers to the French Embassy in Lebanon before the thirty-first of this month of August. The organization of the meeting will be preceded by bilateral consultations, and I express my desire to meet with you in this context.
In the current situation that the country is going through, it is important that we identify together the points of convergence and formulate them accurately to create an environment conducive to crystallizing consensual solutions. I hope that you will all seize this opportunity that I propose to launch, in the name of the President of the French Republic and with the support of Lebanon’s main partners.
