Around 8:15 a.m. this Saturday, the president-elect, Gustav Petro, met with the natural head of the Liberal party, former president Cesar Gaviria.
“Meeting begins between the elected president of Colombia and the head of the Liberal Party. Being Liberal, the path to equality. The Colombia of today and the liberal reforms of the future”, confirmed the Liberal party on its Twitter account.
Former President Gaviria traveled to Florence (Italy) to talk with Gustavo Petro –who is in Europe on vacation, following the second presidential round–. This meeting occurs following the liberal caucus anticipate that it will not be opposed by the incoming government.
According to what has transpired, the Gaviria-Petro meeting takes place to discuss the legislative agenda that begins on July 20 and in which the Liberal party –if it confirms its adherence to the government coalition– it would contribute 14 senators and 32 representatives to the House.
This is the second meeting held by politicians since the second presidential round. On June 22, former President Gaviria also spoke with Petro.
“We are ready to wait for the position regarding our participation and political representation of the elected President. This will allow us to make a decision on how we are going to collaborate with the Petro Government”, Gaviria had pointed out.
