If we talk regarding successful Peruvian businessmen, we cannot fail to mention Eduardo Hochschild, the second richest man in Peru, according to the annual ranking of the prestigious forbes magazine. Eduardo Hochschild, 58, is chairman of the Hochschild Group, a powerful industrial and mining group. The businessman is the son of Ana Beeck Navarro and Luis Hochschild Plaut. Also, he is the great-nephew of the baron of tin in Bolivia, Moritz Hochschild.

The Peruvian businessman completed his university studies at the prestigious Tufts University, in Massachusetts, USA, obtaining a degree in mechanical and physical engineering.

A long and successful professional life

In 1987, the businessman He joined the Hochschild Mining Group, a business started by his great-uncle, as a security assistant at the Arcata Mine. His experience and knowledge of his mining business earned him the appointment head of the conglomerate, in 1998, succeeding his father.

Hand in hand with Hochschild, the company expanded internationally to Argentina, Mexico and Chile, entering the London Stock Exchange in 2006, the same year that Eduardo Hochschild became CEO of Hochschild Mining.

The businessman is also president and main shareholder of Cementos Pacasmayo, founded by his father in 1949, and considered the second most important cement company in Peru. It should be noted that in 2012, Cementos Pacasmayo became the first Peruvian cement company to enter the New York Stock Exchange, according to data from Forbes.

The current president of the Hochschild Group also controls the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC), the Higher Education Institute of Technology (TECSUP) and is a non-executive director of Banco de Credito del Peru (BCP).

How much is the fortune of the second richest man in Peru?

In 2012, Eduardo Hochschild entered the Forbes list for the first time with an estimated fortune of US$2.2 billion, being the only Peruvian on the list along with Carlos Rodriguez-Pastorgroup leader Intercorp and currently considered the richest man in Peru.

According to Forbes, in 2014 Hochschild’s fortune fell to $1.2 billion. But, it was later able to recover registering US$1.5 billion in 2017. It should be noted that in 2021, Hochschild ranked as the third richest Peruvian with a fortune of US$1.3 billion, sharing that position with Anna Maria Bresciaowner of 30% of Grupo Breca.

According to the 2022 Forbes ranking, his fortune is currently valued at US$1.1 billion and he is the second richest man in Peru, only behind Carlos Rodríguez Pastor, who has a fortune of 5.2 billion dollars.
