(CNN Spanish) — Decisions often define political leaders. And to their environments too. The elected president of Argentina, Javier Milei, was traveling to the Presidential Quinta de Olivos for the transition summit with the current president, Alberto Fernández, but before arriving he decided to make a previous stop. He went to look for a person he trusted most, Nicolás Posse.

“A man of extraordinary intelligence, hyperhonest, with a furious capacity for work, and, above all, he is very organized, and the Chief of Staff has to be very organized.” This is how Milei described before the runoff who will be one of the key officials of his government.

The president-elect’s office confirmed to CNN that Posse will be head of the Cabinet of Ministers starting December 10. However, his tasks will not begin on that date given that he is one of those in charge of “assembling the teams” that will come to power, as described by a source who accompanies Javier Milei’s daily life.

That same source anticipates that one of the main functions of the next Chief of Staff is titled “state reform”, a core basis for Milei’s government.

Among the points that make up this project are the reduction of public spending, the simplification of taxes and the privatization of state companies.

The link between Milei and Posse will not begin with the challenge of public management. In fact, they met in the private sector. They shared a work environment at the financial company Corporación América, owned by businessman Eduardo Eurnekián.

Posse served between 2009 and 2017 as project director of the Aconcagua Bioceanic Corridor, which has the objective of linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through a railway corridor including a 52 km long tunnel in the Andes Mountains. In this company he shared a team with Javier Milei, who held the position of chief economist of the firm.

Nicolás Posse graduated as an engineer with honors from the Technological Institute of Buenos Aires (ITBA) in 1989.

His career in the private sector is completed with management in companies such as Molinos Río de La Plata and Sky Argentina, a division within Telecom. In addition, he worked at Red Bull and Aeropuertos Argentina 2000.

Posse’s resume denotes a low public profile that contrasts with the high degree of trust that the president-elect places in him.
