The “Meerkat Radio Telescope Array” captured a picture of the center of the Milky Way galaxy, in which planet Earth is located, within our solar system.
The National Institute of Astronomical and Geophysical Sciences in Egypt said that this image is the latest taken of the galactic center, as it extends to four times the angular size of the moon.
He added that this image of the center of the galaxy is difficult to reach through ordinary optical telescopes, as stellar dust blocks light from telescopes, but the array of “Meerkat” telescopes, consisting of 64 dishes, was able to reach the light bands in the center of the galaxy, and provide scientists with an extended, deep and detailed image. .
The image shows many known objects in clear detail, especially the center of the “Milky Way” in the direction of the constellation “Sagittarius”, as well as the huge black hole in the center of the galaxy.
The institute explained that the array of telescopes is located in South Africa, and is tasked with searching for radio emissions from neutral hydrogen emitted in the universe.
