MEXICALI.- With enthusiasm and participation, the Second Barbecue with a Cause was held, organized by the Mexicali School of Medicine (FMM), which was attended by hundreds of graduates from different generations, who, in addition to living with their former classmates, supported to obtain funds that will be used to finance research projects.

This is an effort carried out by the FMM Liaison Committee, which is made up of doctors: Cipriano Aguilar, José Manuel Avendaño, Juan Quiñones, Pablo Chee, Armando Rodríguez, Julia Dolores Estrada, Hiram Jaramillo, Elba Cornejo, Josué Villegas , Josefina Ruiz Esparza, Roberto Núñez.

The rector of the UABC, Dr. Daniel Octavio Valdez Delgadillo, joined the festivities in order to thank all the doctors who graduated from the UABC, who have repeatedly demonstrated their knowledge and dedication to caring for the health of citizens, such as It happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Thank you for generating an avalanche like this. We are all a grain of sand, but combined efforts we can achieve great goals, “he said.

Likewise, he thanked the Liaison Committee for all the work done for the benefit of the Mexicali Campus Medicine students, and the FMM leadership for being an example in the educational field.

For his part, Dr. José Manuel Avendaño Reyes, director of the FMM, thanked the graduates for their response to this and other celebrations held by the Liaison Committee, including two dinners and the first barbecue, as well as the grillers who They made the event a success. “Thank you for showing your support and solidarity with the projects we have,” he commented.

He stated that approximately 500,000 pesos were raised in the second barbecue, together with a contribution of 75,000 pesos by Dr. José Adrián Medina Amarillas and his family, which will be used for research projects derived from the Doctorate and Master’s in Nutrition, educational programs postgraduate courses that will begin to be taught in the 2023-1 school year.

He added that an evaluation committee will be created to select the six best projects to be financed. “These resources will be administered as always, with all the transparency that is required,” said Dr. Avendaño Reyes.

Dr. Cipriano Aguilar Aguayo, who heads the FMM Liaison Committee, pointed out that thanks to the fundraising events, the FMM has been equipped with a Simulation Hospital -provided with two mannequins, two sets of fundus examinations, two for otoscopy and a team for lumbar puncture–; The Bromatology Laboratory of the Nutrition Degree has been provided with an apparatus for determining proteins and another for digesting fats; Food scholarships corresponding to breakfast and lunch have been awarded to 30 students of the Faculty for one year, and a thermal cycler has also been acquired, which was very useful during the pandemic since COVID-19 tests were carried out with it.
