CANCÚN, Q. ROO.- At the Ciudad de la Alegría Foundation, the support most frequently requested by the population is related to food and medicine, indicated Paola Hidalgo, general director of this organization.
During the past year they provided help to around 40,000 people through the various homes and services that the Foundation has, however, the so-called Bread and Blanket Home is the one with the most demand.
“We have seen that many people continue to arrive with this request for support, especially for medicines or food, so with an Oxxo round-up campaign (which was carried out last year) we will continue to benefit.”
During 2022, they noticed an increase in men who went to the facilities to request support, so they considered that, being the father of the family, the one in charge of going out and looking for the resource to take home is that the men were coming more frequently. frequently, a situation that caught their attention.
In this sense, he expressed that they also provide support to 14 more associations that are external, for example, food banks, the General Hospital, groups of children with cancer, as well as in the Mayan communities.
In the case of the program for the elderly, he said that last year they had between 30 or 40 grandparents, in addition to 816 students from the Mano Amiga Cancun School. In December they even held a Christmas bazaar, where they sold products at affordable costs for people who live in the area.
So for this year they will resume events —which were stopped due to the Covid 19 pandemic— to raise funds, such as bazaars, races and a golf tournament.
Paola Hidalgo recalled that, during the confinement due to the pandemic, they helped 66,000 people, a figure that exceeded the numbers that they normally handle per year, since the beneficiaries range between 38,000 and 40,000.
