Students from the Faculty of Medicine traveled to Barcelona, Spain to take a short international experience at the Autonomous University of Barcelona where they studied 3 subjects: Comprehensive Care of the Elderly, Gynecology and Obstetrics.
With the intention of providing more young people with a global perspective in their respective areas of knowledge, the UPAEP has proposed establishing alliances with institutions from different parts of the world and through them promoting Faculty Led programs that are an opportunity for young people to grow. not only academically, but also professionally and personally by developing intensively.
On this occasion, the Medical students traveled to Barcelona, Spain, to study three subjects in a period of 4 weeks: Comprehensive Care of the Elderly, Gynecology and Obstetrics.
This was announced by Dr. Minerva Burelo Ceballos, Evaluation Coordinator at the Deanery of Medical Sciences and who served as a tutor in this international program, who highlighted that in addition to being an academic program, it was also considered for this program.
“The work done during the stays was both in the classroom and in the hospital. They took the subject “Comprehensive Care of the Elderly”, “Gynecology” and “Obstetrics”. Classes were from Monday to Thursday in two block schedules: from 9 in the morning to 2 pm and from 3 to 4 in the followingnoon. During the four weeks, two of them were allocated to the first subject, one week to the second and another to the third subject. It should be noted that of these last two, the course was carried out in the hospital and not in a study classroom.
The students participating in this Faculty Led agreed that, although it is a wonderful experience, one of the challenges they faced was adapting to the schedules, not so much because of the change in schedule but because of the content and the time allocated to it. the classes. “There was no lack of desire to learn, but there was energy,” commented Sonia Alicia Viveros García, an eighth semester Medicine student.
In this same sense, he added that one of the challenges was to absorb as much as possible of the content provided, since the time and the excellent quality of the professors left them wanting to learn more or, in their case, they wanted not to miss out on the great content. that they were receiving.
In addition to the above, Kevin Guillermo Correa Mendoza, an eighth semester medical student, indicated that this experience left him “inspiration and examples to follow” because he met research doctors, which opened his outlook and his desire to do a specialization in the European country.
For this reason, he recommended that those who have not had an international experience do so at least through a Led Faculty, as he assures, it is a way to build relationships.
Eventually, they agreed, another of the challenges faced was achieving the balance between studying and getting to know the surroundings because although the classes were intensive, on Fridays and/or weekends they had time to visit different places, even traveling to nearby countries.
In this regard, Diego de Los Ríos, a seventh semester Medicine student, thanked the support of Dr. Minerva Burelo, who encouraged him to live the experience and was attentive to all his classmates, which gave him more security when traveling. .
“This trip allowed us to see the race with different eyes. We invite all our colleagues to give themselves the opportunity to do so to get out of their comfort zone and get to know other cultures to achieve personal and academic development in an intense way that leaves them wanting to continue exploring the world,” they noted.
