Medical students denounce that they are forced to leave Mar del Plata to finish their degree

Students who are regarding to graduate from the Superior School of Medicine of the National University of Mar del Plata (UNMdP) They denounced that the directors force them to go live outside of Mar del Plata to complete the final internships and graduate at the end of the year.

The situation was made visible by Project Medicine, which runs the Student Center: the group ensures that more than 100 students should move to Miramar, Pinamar, Villa Gesell, Necochea, Maipú and other cities in the region to finish the last stage of the race .

“Considering that The Final Internship, mandatory, lasts 10 months, taking place from Monday to Friday with a charge of 8 hours a day plus guard duty every 15 days.they must move to live in these other cities”, they reasoned in the space chaired by Pía Quintana.

Why can’t internships be done in Mar del Plata? Because the Medicine authorities, as reported in the Student Center, did not manage any agreement with the city’s public hospitals and only agreed agreements with the municipalities in the area.

“From Project Medicine we are convinced that PFO must be carried out in our city for each and every one of the students who so wish and we will work tirelessly with all the sectors involved to make this proposal a reality”, they expressed in the group student, in a statement sent to 0223.

In the same sense, from the Student Center they insisted on the need for the management of the university school, in charge of Adrián Alasino, “to start working on this matter as soon as possible, to take the necessary next steps to specify that no student has to leave the city to finish their degree”.

encouraging meeting

In the last hours, leaders of the Medicine Project met with directors of public hospitals and owners of Ioma, Pami and Sanitary Region VIII to raise the problem in the first person. At the meeting, the authorities “agreed on the need to articulate actions” so that the Mar del Plata spaces can also serve as the venue for the mandatory final practices.

“Each one of the authorities confirmed to us that the places actually exist and that the internships can be done in Mar del Plata. They have the will that this be so but The school needs to get in touch with the hospitals in order to start obtaining those places through the corresponding administrative channels.”, assured Quintana, before the consultation of this medium, following the meeting.

Participating in the meeting were Hugo Casarsa (executive director of the Don Victorio Tetamanti Maternal and Child Hospital), Verónica Martín (executive director of the Dr. Oscar Alende Interzonal General Acute Hospital), Roberto Fidel (director of the Houssay Hospital), Fernando Mogni (head of PAMI local), Santiago González (head of IOMA), Gastón Vargas (head of Sanitary Zone VIII) and associate directors of both provincial public hospitals.

After the commitment expressed by the different health effectors, the referent of the student center considered that the School of Medicine also “must commit itself in the same way with the aim of guaranteeing that access to practices in this last stretch in the hospitals of our city ”.

“Our School has the spirit of training the professionals that our health system needs. We agree that it is a necessary aspect for students to know the hospitals where they will develop their professional life. Knowing our territory and its particular characteristics is a necessary condition to enrich our training and the health system of our region”, said the young woman.
