A group of students from the Higher School of Medicine from the National University of Mar del Plata manifested this Friday and plans to do it once more this Monday before the start of the 2022 school year to denounce the current course conditions which, they claim, lead to “desertion and abandonment” of the race in various cases. “There are many students who might not attend their courses of different years because there are no quotas to sign up”, they graphed.

The student claim, which has the support of the student center of the institution, began to be exposed on Friday with a “sitting” carried out at the door of the School by a group of students and they planned to replicate the measure this Monday for when the start of the school year is scheduled.

From the student center to spread The claim raised the existence of a “large number of irregularities in the face of the start of the course” from students of all years who “cannot enroll in the subjects due to administrative errors or lack of quotas”.

“There are many students who might not attend their courses of different years because there are no quotas to sign up”, explained Pía Quintana, president of the student center in dialogue with How digital. Likewise, he stated that the claim also arose from a request for an extension of an expiration date that was rejected by the Academic Secretary and that left some 180 students “in a condition to appeal.”

“Beyond that, we come from five years of the career where disorganization and lack of student rights are the rule, that has contributed to the exhaustion of students and on the other hand to the desertion and abandonment of the degree because we have an absolutely strict system of courses and correlatives that are very exclusive.” summed up the student leader in relation to the substantive conflict.

And he questioned that the management of the School “has a position of defending that regime instead of being able to sit down with the student representatives to think regarding policies that guarantee the permanence of the students in the career and that they can continue with their project”.

In this sense, and taking into account the public demands that have been initiated, he remarked: “What the students ask for and what we decided to accompany from the student center are course conditions and student rights so that students do not continue to be left out of the race”.

In the midst of this claim from the student center for specific but also substantive issues around the courses, from the Higher School of Medicine they reported a extension in the registration process to the subjects.

Specifically, they indicated that enrollment in subjects from second to fourth year as well as elective and transversal subjects will continue until March 16, accompanied by measures to “guarantee the registration of the students who require it”.

For their part, they indicated that entrants registered by the National University will be able to start studying “conditionally” waiting to regularize their situation following the administrative process dependent on the Rector.
