After spending four months hospitalized at the Reina Catalina Clinic and not recovering from a bullet that lodged in his head, doctors from this care center confirmed the death of medical student Hernán Darío Rodríguez Urrea in the early hours of this Monday, June 19. , 18 years old.
It must be remembered that this young man was injured on February 11, in the middle of a police procedure on Calle 84 with Carrera 44 that took place at night in Guacherna.
At the time, through information provided by the Barranquilla Metropolitan Police, it was learned that around 5:00 in the morning that Saturday, the young university student was staying with a group of people at the aforementioned address in the Granadillo neighborhood, when agents came to attend a complaint for disturbance of public order, apparently, derived from a fight. Although, apparently, residents of the area had reported that a group of people “were consuming intoxicating drinks around a vehicle with the sound at high volume.”
At that moment, in the midst of confusing events, the minor was hit with the weapon provided by one of the uniformed officers who came to attend to the case.
Faced with the incident, General Jorge Urquijo, commander of the Metropolitan Police, then stated that there was an open investigation from the moment the situation occurred and added that they were awaiting the medical evolution of the injured young man.
Even, according to what was exposed by the victim’s relatives, the Military Criminal Justice opened some investigations, and the uniformed officer who would have activated the endowment weapon faces a disciplinary process.
In March, a month after the situation occurred, the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation opened a preliminary investigation against uniformed officers of the Barranquilla Metropolitan Police for the case.
“The control entity is investigating the circumstances in which the university student, Hernán Darío Rodríguez Urrea, was hit by a bullet at the exit of an establishment located on Calle 84 with Carrera 44, at dawn on February 11,” he mentioned. the Attorney General’s Office in a statement.
Likewise, they ordered the taking of evidence in order to verify the occurrence of the facts. “We want to determine if they constitute a disciplinary offense, identify and individualize the public servants who participated in the operation, and the individuals in the exercise of public functions allegedly compromised to establish if they have acted under a cause of exclusion of responsibility ”, concluded the entity.
