Medical Federation demands freedom of psychiatrists detained by the Prosecutor’s Office

The FMV statement reinforces the position of the Caracas College of Physicians which, also in a statement, certified that those detained in the Chyno Miranda case are senior psychiatrists.

The Venezuelan Medical Federation (FMV) demanded the immediate release of psychiatrists Lionel Sotillo and Vitorio Domínguez who were arrested by the Public Ministry accused of illegal practice, on November 8, in the case of singer Jesús “Chyno” Miranda.

Through a statement, the executive committee of the FMV, headed by its president, Douglas León Natera, and the general secretary in charge, Alicia García, expresses that the complaints by prosecutor Tarek William Saab are “unfounded and without any proof.”

“If they are doctors in the legal practice of medicine, graduates of our universities, recognized, practicing for a long time in Venezuela,” says the letter from the medical union.

The FMV statement reinforces the position of the Caracas College of Physicians which, also in a statement, certified that those detained in the Chyno Miranda case are senior psychiatrists.

Similarly, the Venezuelan Society of Psychiatry defended the ownership of the two medical professionals.

The two psychiatrists, Sotillo and Domínguez, worked at the Tía Panchita rehabilitation center, where the Venezuelan singer was confined.

“We will publicly denounce the abuse of authority of the State police bodies and the nation’s Attorney General’s Office when in an excessive, stubborn and abusive manner they deprive of liberty and accuse two Venezuelan psychiatric medical colleagues”, says the FMV.
