Medical evacuations – Health priority

2024-01-18 09:00:02

Due to a lack of sufficient or appropriate healthcare provision in their territory, some patients are forced to seek treatment far from home or in another country. These medical evacuations also concern expatriates and can be carried out by ambulance, or by plane, in order to allow the patient to reach a health facility as quickly as possible. A high cost delivery which effectively excludes many patients.

This situation is sometimes criticized, in the sense that it favors a two-tier health system. How do medical evacuations work? For what illnesses do we come for treatment in Paris or Lausanne, when we live in Lagos or Kinshasa?
