Medical devices. Sothema acquires 40% of Prodimedic

Sothema strengthens its position in the medical device market. The company will acquire 40% of the capital of Prodimedic, an operation which will result in the execution of an ambitious investment plan aimed at setting up a local production unit for medical devices.

The Moroccan pharmaceutical group has just announced a project to acquire a stake in the capital of Prodimedic, a 100% Moroccan manufacturer operating in the Made in Morocco medical device market. “The medical devices market is experiencing promising momentum, with double-digit growth and government plans to promote made in Morocco”, explains Mohamed Tazi, administrator and executive support director of Sothema, who recalls that “Morocco still matters 90% of its needs for medical devices that can be easily manufactured in the Kingdom, hence the strategic importance of this merger with Prodimedic”.

With this equity investment, the new production unit will notably manufacture bags, syringes, catheters, medical tubing, etc. It will be located in the urban and industrial center of Had Soualem and will cover an area of 6,520 m².

The two companies are part of a participatory approach by Moroccan industry as part of the royal initiative to ensure coverage of Moroccan consumption of drugs and medical devices by local manufacturing. “This merger project between Sothema and Prodimedic reflects our policy since our creation, which has been to favor local manufacturing over imports”, underlines Sothema’s administrator and executive director of support.
