Medical cannabis industry aims to diversify products for the international market

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, together with the Vice Minister of Industry, Lorena Méndez, received members of the Pharma Industries SA laboratory, who expressed their interest in diversifying their products made from medicinal cannabis, with a view to expanding to the international market. They stressed that the objective is for the medicinal cannabis industry in Paraguay to generate benefits such as job creation and contribute to the economic development of the country.

Industry representative Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar reported that during the meeting with the authorities they discussed informational aspects for the development of the medicinal cannabis industry in the country, as well as important points that will allow progress in this industry.

Pharma Industries is one of the companies in the country that has a license to produce and process cannabis-based medicines. Its representative said that the company is at the culmination of the first stage of the industry.

Díaz de Vivar stressed that although the medicinal cannabis sector is still developing, it faces certain regulatory issues that must be worked on with the government in order to move towards the export of its products, as well as to supply the local market, with a view to export, but also with a supply to the National Program for the Study and Medical and Scientific Research of the Medicinal Use of the Cannabis Plant and its Derivatives – PROINCUMED.
