Shareholders of the French gaming company Ubisoft are considering the option of selling it, according to Bloomberg, citing its sources. So far, all thoughts regarding the absorption of the studio are in their infancy.
There are no open talks regarding a Ubisoft merger with anyone else, because it is not clear whether the founder of the company, Yves Guillemot, who owns most of the company’s shares, is ready for such a step. Sources do not yet give guarantees that any deal will take place at all.
Bloomberg noted that Ubisoft’s capitalization decreased by 41% over the year. After rumors regarding a possible sale of the corporation, the value of its shares rose by 11% in a day.
In 2010, the Vivendi conglomerate already tried to take over Ubisoft, but in the course of the proceedings, the Chinese Tencent took over part of the company. And rumors regarding Microsoft have been circulating since 2019.
