Media reports of US Secret Service chief Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation

WASHINGTON. — The director of the Secret Service will be leaving her post, according to an email she sent to staff, following the assassination attempt against the former president Donald Trump sparking widespread outcry over how the agency tasked with protecting current and former presidents could be failing in its core mission.

Kimberly Cheatlehead of the Secret Service since August 2022, faced growing calls for her resignation and several investigations into How the attacker was able to get so close to the presidential candidate Republican at an outdoor campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

“I take full responsibility for the security breach,” she said in the email to staff on Tuesday. “In light of recent events, it is with great regret that I have made the difficult decision to step down as director.”
