Media invitation: 50 years of Wachauring – anniversary event on 22./23. April

Legends show with prominent participants and start of the FIA CEZ Rallycross Championship on April 22nd and 23rd, 2023

Vienna (OTS) 50 years ago, in April 1973, the LERU-Ring in Melk opened with the first rallycross race in Austria. 30 years later, the ÖAMTC took over the site and built a modern driving safety center, which also includes a racetrack with the Wachauring. The double anniversary will be celebrated with an event on April 22nd and 23rd: As part of the FIA CEZ Championship (Central European Zone), around 100 racing cars will start at the Wachauring. The race is also the start of the local rallycross state championship. In addition to the racing action, there will also be a parade of legends. Motorsport and car fans can see racing driver idols from the past with their jewels live on site.

Franz Wurz is one of the prominent participants: 50 years following the opening, the three-time European Rallycross Champion takes the wheel once more and drives the legendary Lancia Stratos for a few “hot laps” around the Wachauring. His 15-year-old grandson Oscar, Alexander Wurz’s youngest son, starts in the Peugeot 206 junior trophy.
