Media: Hostages not released until 24 hours after ceasefire

If the ceasefire is adopted quickly, the first hostage releases are not expected before Thursday, according to Israeli media reports. Implementation of the agreement must wait 24 hours to allow Israeli citizens to appeal to the Supreme Court to block the release of Palestinian prisoners, Channel 12 News reported. According to an insider, around 50 Israelis abducted by Hamas are to be released.

Meanwhile, Jordan increased its army presence along the border with Israel. Jordan’s Prime Minister Weiter Khasawneh said his country would use “all means at its disposal” to prevent Israel from expelling Palestinians en masse from the West Bank. Any Israeli attempt to force Palestinians across the Jordan would constitute a breach of the peace agreement with the neighboring country.

Any threat to Jordan’s national security would “bring all options to the table.” The recent troop deployments along the borders with Israel are part of measures to protect the country’s security. The conflict between Israel and Gaza has long stoked fears in Jordan, which hosts large numbers of Palestinian refugees and their descendants.

As the news portal Axios reported, citing two people familiar with the matter, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will travel to Israel for talks at the beginning of next week. He will speak to Israeli and Palestinian representatives regarding the war in Gaza, the portal said, citing two people familiar with the matter.
