Media blackout in Israel on war damage: Strict military censorship restricts access to information

Between a picture here of broken glass and a scene there of a damaged car, the source of information coming from Israel about the damage caused by the Lebanese factions’ missiles – including the heavy missiles that were launched in the past two days – is limited to social media sites, which are naturally less subject to restrictions.

Also, since the beginning of the war in Gaza in October 2023, there has not been any media image of any Israeli casualties, and this situation has declined until these days with the escalation of the situation on the northern front.

Media sources told RT that all statements issued by the Israeli authorities about the fall of the missiles and their locations confirm categorically that no one was injured.

When the Israeli media discloses any information, it is trimmed, stereotyped and abbreviated without sufficient details.

For example, the Israeli media reported yesterday, Monday, that an Israeli was killed in northern Israel in a traffic accident coinciding with the fall of rockets launched by Lebanese factions, and today it was said that a number of Israelis were injured in a stampede while heading to protected areas, i.e. shelters. No pictures or sufficient information.

What about journalists’ dealing with this restriction on access to information?

Sources confirm that journalists working in Israel avoid commenting in compliance with military censorship.

The Israeli authorities have closed the offices of a number of Arab media outlets and prevented their crews from working since the beginning of the war in Gaza, including the Lebanese Al-Mayadeen channel and recently the Qatari Al-Jazeera channel for a temporary period, while recording a record number of targeting journalists in Gaza, where 173 Palestinian journalists have been killed since October 7 and 32 others have been arrested.
