Presentation of non-clinical data on photosensitizers for the treatment of peritonitis

‘Ponogen (DSP 1944)’, a photosensitizer developed by Dongsung Pharmaceutical (CEO Yang-gu Lee), was introduced at the 20th regular symposium of the Korean Society of Photodynamics.

The College of Photodynamics (President Yong-Doo Choi, National Cancer Center) holds an academic conference every year to share pioneering research results with experts in the field of photodynamic therapy and diagnosis. On the 12th, at the 20th regular symposium of the Korean Society of Photodynamics held at the international conference hall of the National Cancer Center, ‘The latest treatment and technology development using PDT’, ‘Development of metabolic disease and immunotherapy technology’, ‘Early diagnosis and treatment technology’ Three sessions including ‘Development’ were held.

At this conference, Professor Kim Hyung-il of the stomach cancer surgery department at Sinchon Severance Hospital presented ‘the effect of intraperitoneal PDT treatment in a mouse model of peritoneal cancer’. This is the first case of Dongsung Pharmaceutical’s Ponogen applied as non-clinical data prior to its use in patients with peritoneal cancer. The results of this study are positive and suggest promising results for metastatic peritoneal cancer.

This presentation material was selected as an oral presentation at ‘PDT 2022’, a world-class international PDT conference to be held in Nancy, France on October 24th. The announcement is expected to be an opportunity to showcase the photosensitizer developed by Dongsung Pharmaceutical for the first time on the world stage.

In addition, Dongsung Pharmaceutical received a special award at this conference in recognition of its contribution to the development of domestic PDT.

Dongsung Pharmaceutical plans to conduct a clinical trial using ‘Percutaneous Photodynamic Therapy (PI PDT)’, which accesses and treats pancreatic cancer lesions only with local anesthesia without general anesthesia. In addition, we are considering a plan to combine ‘Ultrasound Guided Photodynamic Therapy (EUS PDT)’ together.

An official from Dongsung Pharmaceutical said, “We plan to expand the treatment area to peritoneal cancer while conducting the photodynamic treatment clinical trial for pancreatic cancer with various treatment methods. We are planning a clinical trial.”
