The Mayor’s Office of Medellín, through the Botanical Garden, has begun the intervention of the central separator between the Exposiciones roundabout and the San Diego roundabout, with the aim of converting it into a green corridor.
This initiative, which represents an investment of $480 million, will focus on civil works and planting along five sections, beginning with an intervention that covers a total area of 783 square meters and will have nine flowerbeds.

Mayor Federico Gutiérrez Zuluaga highlighted the importance of this transformation, which seeks to replace the hard floor with a soft one, thus increasing the vegetation cover in the city.
“We are in the process of planting green corridors, for us it is a priority to have much more green again”he said.
This new green corridor will be added to the additional 900 square meters that will include the planters, which will house various plant species such as fuchsia tortoiseshell, yellow daisy and lilies, among others.

The aim of this project is to ensure that Medellín continues to be a world leader in biodiversity and climate change mitigation, with the potential to reduce the temperature of the area by up to two degrees Celsius.
This initiative is also aligned with the Medellín Te Quiere 2024-2027 Development Plan, which provides for the hiring of approximately 700 gardeners to strengthen the care and maintenance of these green areas.
