A previously proposed project is being implemented in the Antioquia region with the aim of contributing to the efficiency and speed of transportation in Medellín. This is about the modernization of Metro trains, which has been serving citizens since 1995, not only for transportation purposes, but also contributing to both national and international tourism, capturing the attention of visitors through its carriages and metro culture.

The project consists of an investment of around $555 billion Colombian pesos to obtain thirteen new trains that, with their design and infrastructure, update and modernize this transportation system, providing better quality and experience in the service offered to users. What this plan aims for is for these thirteen trains to provide a broader service to users. allowing more people to use them.

The project is underway because of the $555,000 million required for the main investment, the allocation of $184,960 million was approved by the Assembly of Antioquia with 23 votes in favor, so that in this way, the administration of the Antioquia department can carry out the purchase of trains, in addition to the other part of the money that is necessary for its execution.

The need for investment in this means of transport, arises from the gradual increase that the Medellín Metro has presented, Exceeding, according to data from an analysis carried out in May 2024 by the Medellín Metro, the number of users in 2022, going from 300 million to 312 million, which represents 3.9% of the increased number.
