Medellín: deaths due to intolerance are skyrocketing

Worryingly, this is how the statistics of homicides in Medellín related to issues of coexistence and intolerance could be described. This year the trend equals the number of murders that have been the product of the actions of criminal structures.

The last violent event that left homicides in Medellín would have originated after an angry argument between people who were chatting in a house in Manrique. The victims were two men who died after being stabbed.

“As it has been established, the two people who lost their lives, one 33 years old and the other 53 years old, were talking with other men inside a house, where they would have injured each other with a knife”: reported General William Castaño, commander of the Metropolitan Police.

A third person involved would have gone badly injured to a healthcare center, where he contacted the police and told them what happened. The two fatal victims joined the list of homicides that occurred in 2024 in Medellín, which have been related to issues of coexistence: 64 murders.

The statistic is only surpassed by one case of violent deaths resulting from the actions of criminal structures, while the murders associated with robberies have been 24. The coexistence figure is even more alarming if we take into account that 13 deaths were due to gender violence and six due to domestic violence, that is, motivations related to intolerance.

Apparently, according to witnesses at the scene, the victims of the double homicide that occurred in Manrique are members of the LGBTIQ+ community.
