Medan Residents Prepare for Digital Broadcast

JAKARTA, Waspada.co.id – The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) appealed to residents of Makassar City, South Sulawesi and Medan, North Sumatra, to prepare their television sets to receive digital broadcasts.

Through a written statement received by Kompas.TV, Wednesday (3/5), the Ministry of Communication and Informatics appealed to residents who still use analog television to add a set top box (STB) before analog broadcasts are turned off.

“People in Medan and Makassar are advised to prepare their TVs to receive digital TV broadcasts,” the statement said. Those whose TVs are still analog, just add STB from now on before the analog broadcasts stop.”

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics also appealed to mux or multiplexing organizers to improve their signals, so that people can easily receive digital TV broadcasts.

“For TV broadcast programs and broadcasting stakeholders, continuous socialization so that people immediately switch to digital TV. For STB and digital TV providers so that the prices are affordable and easily available in the retail market and market place.”

In that statement, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics also stated that the results of the Nielsen survey as of May 1, 2023, digital TV penetration in 11 major cities was over 90%. While in Java, close to 100%,

“For the penetration of digital TV in Bali, Palembang and Banjarmasin, which were already ASO in March 2023, there was a very significant shift, the people watching digital TV broadcasts were approaching 85%, leaving Medan and Makassar,” as a written statement.

The statement also states that the multiplier effect of ASO in 11 major cities on the penetration of national digital broadcasts has exceeded 74%.

Meanwhile, the number of people watching analog TV broadcasts before ASO was around 59 million and on 1 May 2023 it had decreased to 54.7 million.

“Analog TV broadcasts have been abandoned by people who have switched to digital broadcasts,”

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics also explained that the private sector and TVRI had built digital TV infrastructure (Mux) in 341 districts/cities affected by ASO.

As many as 584 TV stations broadcast digitally and 103 analog broadcasts are in the process of migrating to digital TV.

“People throughout Indonesia who have been affected by ASO can already enjoy digital TV broadcasts, the picture is clean, the sound is clear and the technology is sophisticated,”. (wol/komastv/ryan/d2)
