Medals don’t smell? In biathlon, they started talking about the removal of Russia for 10-15 years

The scandalous Swede admits that Russian biathletes will not be at the World Cup until the end of his career.

Swedish biathlete Sebastian Samuelsson is known not only for his Russophobic statements, but also for winning medals at the 2018 Olympics. In Pyeongchang, the athlete managed to take the relay gold and personal silver in the absence of the strongest Russians. Without rivals from our country, the Scandinavian feels comfortable even now. Moreover, he probably dreams that this “fairy tale” will last for decades.

How nice it is for him today to take not quite full-fledged medals and quite real prize money!

And when the Swede gets old and retires, it will be possible to return the Russians too. Brilliant logic!

“They shouldn’t be allowed”

Olympic champion Pyeongchang Sebastian Samuelsson this biathlon season can not boast of great success. So far, he has the only pedestal to his credit at the World Cup: in Hochfilzen, he managed to take silver in the relay. However, this local success might not have happened if Russian and Belarusian athletes participated in international competitions. Now our athletes are not available for known reasons, and this suits the Swede quite well. The biathlete perceives talk regarding the possible return of competitors negatively.

– In the current situation, it is obvious to me that their [россиян и белорусов] cannot be allowed. It is not known how long this will all last, but if it takes 10-15 years, then we should think regarding what we can do to ensure that they return in the future, Expressen quotes Samuelsson.

So the biathlete reacted to the statement of the Swedish skier Pernilla Wiberg, noting that he was “surprised” by her words. The two-time Olympic champion expressed her disagreement with the exclusion of athletes from individual countries, believing that sport should unite. But the Swede has already finished her career and can afford to criticize Olympic officials. Samuelsson, in the event of the return of Russians and Belarusians, will have to compete with strong athletes. Probably, the 25-year-old biathlete does not really like such a prospect, which is why he declares some incredible term. At the age of 35-40, he most likely will no longer have to fight for medals and prize money. And what will happen next – is it Sebastian’s problem?

Swede’s shortsightedness

It seems that, trying to besiege a compatriot freethinker, Samuelsson unwittingly betrayed his secret desires. It would really be ideal for him to run without competitors from Russia and Belarus for the rest of his career. And he doesn’t care that without two strong teams, competition in the world biathlon will fall, and hundreds of children in rogue countries will end up with biathlon due to the inability to compete at the international level.

The very fact that foreign athletes allow a 15-year suspension of Russia shows how strong anti-Russian sentiment is in individual countries and sports. And the current situation perfectly reveals the human essence. While some are worried that they cannot compete with the strongest, others are happy to take prizes and medals, and at the same time make themselves a near-sports career on Russophobia.
