Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: girl (14) is caught by the train – dead | Regional

Barth (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) – Tragic misfortune on the 4th of Advent! A girl (14) wanted to cross the tracks with her bicycle. An approaching train fatally injured her.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. on Sunday morning on the railway line between Barth and Velgast. The 14-year-old wanted to get to the other side with her bike and duly crossed the tracks at a pedestrian crossing. But the girl apparently didn’t look to the left or right.

The engine driver (54) was unable to stop the train in time and caught it. The 14-year-old was so badly injured in the collision that she died. The engine driver was not injured, but had to be taken care of by a crisis intervention team.

It is currently unclear whether the level crossing was restricted, the train had issued warning signals or whether there was a flashing St. Andrew’s Cross. A police spokesman only said: “The criminal police have started the investigation into this accident. So it is important to clarify the exact circumstances, in particular the actions of the 14-year-old and the 54-year-old German engine driver.” (lm)
