Mechernich Tollities Call for Carnival Blood Donations – Become a Life Saver!

(Jimmy Carr voice) Ah, the Germans, always so organized, always so efficient. I mean, they’ve even managed to make donating blood a fun, family affair. (chuckles) “Come on down, folks, we’ll take a pint of your blood, and in return, we’ll give you a nice cup of tea and a biscuit… and oh, by the way, you might just save three lives!” (in a silly German accent) “Don’t vorry, ve’ll only take a little blood, ja?”

Now, I’m not saying the Germans are obsessed with blood, but I did hear they’re considering adding a new event to the Oktoberfest: the Blood-Drinking-Stein-Holding-Bratwurst-Eating contest. (laughs)

(Rowan Atkinson voice) Now, now, now, let’s get on with the article, shall we? (in a silly voice) We have Prince Joachim I, Farmer Werner, and Virgin Johanna – a triumvirate of titans, no less – calling upon the good people of Mechernich to donate blood. (in a normal voice) Ah, but it’s not just about the donation itself; it’s about the experience. You see, after donating, you’ll get a lovely snack and, if you act now, a stylish enamel cup. (in a silly voice) Oh, it’s a cup-tastic incentive, if I do say so myself!

(Ricky Gervais voice) You know, I’m not sure what’s more impressive, the organization of the German Red Cross or the fact that Prince Joachim I has donated blood an astonishing 76 times. That’s like, what, a whole human’s worth of blood? (laughs) I mean, I’ve heard of people being referred to as a “lifeblood” of the community, but this guy’s like the literal version.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Ricky, why should I donate blood?” Well, let me tell you, it’s a no-brainer. You get to save lives, you get a free snack, and you get to feel smug about it for the rest of the day. (smirking) I mean, what’s not to love?

(Lee Evans voice) Right, right, let’s get down to business, shall we? So, you want to donate blood, but you’re not sure if you’re eligible? Well, don’t worry, mate, it’s easier than ordering a meat pie at the pub. Just head on over to www.blutspende.jetzt, and you can book an appointment online. And if you’re unsure about anything, just give the DRK blood donation service hotline a ring on 0800 1194911. Easy peasy!

(In a silly voice) Now, let’s all go out there and give blood, shall we? After all, as the great philosopher, Prince Joachim I, once said, “Everyone come and donate blood and become life savers.” (laughs) Ah, profound, mate!

(Back to normal voice) And there you have it, folks, the art of blood donation, German style. Efficient, organized, and with a side of bratwurst. So, go on, do the right thing, and donate some blood. Your cup (enamel, of course) will thank you. (winks)

Mechernich Tollities Call for Carnival Blood Donations

Mechernich Tollities, led by Prince Joachim I (Vossel), Farmer Werner (Echtner), and Virgin Johanna (Johann Klöcker), are issuing a heartfelt appeal for blood donations in Mechernich on Thursday, November 28th. From 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., individuals willing to save lives can visit the Red Cross Center at Bruchgasse 34.

According to Prince Joachim I, "besides having tremendous fun, our blood donation drive can literally save up to three lives with each 500-milliliter donation." As an active participant, the prince has already donated 75 times to the Red Cross in Mechernich, showcasing his dedication to the cause. Prince Joachim’s wife, Annette, is also an avid blood donor and helps the Red Cross with their initiatives. She has joined her husband in registering for the upcoming blood donation event.

To take part in this noble endeavor, interested individuals can schedule an appointment through the online platform, www.blutspende.jetzt. Upon arrival, they must bring their identification card or driver’s license. The actual blood donation process lasts approximately 5 to 10 minutes, followed by a brief relaxation period. As a token of gratitude, the Red Cross will present every donor with a stylish enamel cup until the end of the year.

Red Cross on Blood Donations

Rolf Klöcker, District Manager of the Red Cross, expressed his appreciation for the ongoing support from loyal blood donors in the Euskirchen district, where donation numbers currently remain stable. "The encouragement and participation of Mechernich residents in this vital cause is noteworthy," he emphasized.

Edeltraud Engelen, the Red Cross blood donation representative in the Euskirchen district, highlighted the importance of blood donations. "The demand for blood units is substantial, with approximately 3,500 units required daily in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland." Engelen also praised the efforts of the Tollities and other carnival organizers in promoting this just cause throughout the district.

Requirements for Blood Donation

Those interested in donating blood must be at least 18 years old and in good health. The previous upper age limit for blood donors has been lifted. If you have concerns about eligibility or are taking specific medications, you can contact the DRK blood donation service hotline at 0800 1194911 for guidance.
