Capital, party and government authorities in Havana launched measures for the capital city in view of the proximity of Cyclone Beryl, a major hurricane that is currently passing through the Caribbean Sea, to the southern coast of Cuba.
According to today’s morning report from Insmet of Cuba, from midday and followingnoon on Wednesday, there will be sustained winds between 40 and 55 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts in the south of Granma, in eastern Cuba. There will also be swells and moderate flooding on the southern coast of Granma and Santiago de Cuba.
During the night, early morning and dawn of Thursday, July 4, there might be some rain in the south of the central region, due to the circulation of the outer bands associated with Beryl. Always with greater incidence on the south coast.
Beginning early Thursday morning, winds may increase in strength on Isla de la Juventud and the western end of the country, such as Pinar del Río, with speeds between 30 and 45 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts.
Although Havana is located on the northern coast of Cuba, preventive measures were still launched, according to the Tribuna newspaper.
