June 11 – VOICE. Measles is still one of the most contagious diseases, the infection index of this virus is the absolute leader among all pathogens.

Doctor Lyubov Stankevich in an interview for the Sport24.ru portal told how the infection occurs, what are the symptoms of the disease, how dangerous measles is and whether there is a treatment.

The expert noted that it is almost impossible to prevent measles without strong immunity, because this virus is unique. It can only survive in the environment for two hours, but the infection still poses a threat to anyone who is not vaccinated or has never been exposed to infection.

At the time of infection, the patient begins a severe fever, as well as a severe intoxication syndrome, barking cough, catarrhal manifestations of the mucous membranes of the oropharynx. These same signs can appear with angina, other acute respiratory viral infections and allergic reactions. Skin manifestations of measles can be confused with signs of rubella and chickenpox. However, one symptom should clearly point to this viral disease – the appearance of whitish spots with a red border inside the cheeks.

Around the fifth day following infection, an exanthema begins, a measles rash that appears on the face, neck, and ears, and then spreads to the extensor surfaces of the arms and legs, including the fingers. Quite often among the complications of measles pneumonia or bronchitis occurs. But the most dangerous consequences of the disease are blindness, deafness, damage to the nervous liver and kidneys. A fatal outcome is also possible.

Treatment is mainly aimed at relieving the symptoms of the disease and early prevention of complications. There are no specific medicines for the treatment of measles.

Previously, GLAS listed the symptoms of advanced thyroid cancer.
