Epidemiological summary

During the epidemiological week 9 of 2023no cases of measles or rubella have been reported in CanadaFootnote 2. To date, in 2023, three cases of measles have been reported and no case of rubella has been reported. The last case of rubella was reported in December 2019. The last case of congenital rubella syndrome/infection was reported in September 2018.

Summary of the laboratory

Measles

In epidemiological week 9, 2023, the genotype of measles was identified for a case reported in epidemiological week 7. The case had recently traveled to India and the genotype was D8, which is endemic to India.

To date in 2023, two (2) measles cases have been genotyped and the genotypes were B3 and D8.
