Epidemiological summary
During the epidemiological week 17 of 2023one new case of measles and no new cases of rubella were reported in CanadaFootnote 2. The case was reported by the Province of Ontario and is epidemiologically associated with a case linked to recent travel to India. The rash appeared in epidemiological week 18.
To date, in 2023, six cases of measles have been reported and no cases of rubella have been reported. The last case of rubella was reported in December 2019. The last case of congenital rubella syndrome/infection was reported in September 2018.

Summary of the laboratory
Measles
In epidemiological week 17, 2023, the measles genotype was identified for a case that was reported in epidemiological week 16. The case had recently traveled to India and the genotype was D8, which is endemic in the region.
To date in 2023, five (5) measles cases have been genotyped and the genotypes were B3 (n=2) and D8 (n=3).
