Measles: Health Canada issues public advisory in connection with possible exposure

Canadians who reportedly attended a large religious gathering at a university in the United States last month may have been exposed to measles, Health Canada reports.

In a series of tweets issued on Saturday, the national health agency said those who attended and are not up to date with their vaccinations should remain in quarantine at home. She also recommends contacting her local public health department for additional guidance.

The event was held on the campus of Asbury University in Kentucky on February 17-18. In the United States, where a case of measles has been confirmed among attendees, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a similar advisory, telling other attendees to “remain vigilant.” It would be a person who has not been vaccinated.

An estimated 20,000 were present in the crowd, including some who came from other states and countries.

Measles is one of the most contagious human viruses. This spread can be reduced almost completely with the help of vaccination.
