  • Sick person at James Blunt concert on March 8, 2024 – Raising awareness for people who were there at the same time: Check vaccination status
  • Free MMR vaccinations from participating doctors in the Tyrol vaccination campaign for all age groups

According to current knowledge, one of the people currently suffering from measles – without knowing regarding the disease – was at the James Blunt concert at the Olympiaworld in Innsbruck during the infectious period on Friday, March 8, 2024. People who have also been there – especially in the area of the stalls in the middle on the right – are asked to check their vaccination status and that of their family members for two measles vaccinations (identified as MMRvaxPro or Priorix in the vaccination certificate under MMR vaccination) and if necessary to catch up as quickly as possible.

People who experience flu-like symptoms as a pre-existing respiratory illness (7 to 21 days following contact, depending on the length of the possible incubation periods) should isolate themselves and first inform an office, rescue or hospital by telephone. After an incubation period of seven days, the possible infectious period begins, in this specific case on March 15th and can last until March 29th, 2024. A vaccination during the incubation period can weaken the course of the disease. Vaccination of family members protects them if an illness occurs. People who have been vaccinated twice and people who have already had measles are considered immune.

A total of 79 confirmed cases of measles have been recorded in Tyrol this year. Four people required hospital treatment – measles is highly contagious and carries a risk of complications of 20 percent. Even if none of these 79 people are currently considered contagious for measles, subsequent cases can still be expected from these and other people.

Vaccination as the most effective protection once morest measles infection

Measles disease must be reported. Infection with measles viruses can lead to serious illnesses. Infants, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. The most effective protection for yourself, but also for others, is an early – from the age of 9 months – two measles-mumps-rubella vaccinations, the so-called MMR vaccination. After two vaccinations, illness is almost impossible. The vaccination can be repeated at any time.
