Experienced Family Physician Joins MDH Family Clinic
McDonough District Hospital (MDH) is delighted to announce that Dr. Michael Waters will be joining its medical team. Beginning January 6, 2025, Dr. Waters will lead the MDH Family Clinic while overseeing the MDH Convenience Clinics. He is committed to serving the community’s health needs and is currently accepting new patients.

Dr. Waters brings extensive experience to MDH. After graduating from V.I.T. High School in Table Grove, Illinois, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Bradley University. He then pursued his medical training at the SIU School of Medicine, specializing in Family Practice. Following his residency at the Methodist Medical Center of Illinois, Dr. Waters became a board-certified Family Practice physician.
From Leading Physician to Community Champion
Dr. Waters’ career demonstrates a dedication to comprehensive patient care. He began his career in 1999 at Family Practice Associates (now Springfield Clinic) where he spent 13 years dedicated to serving patients and establishing strong ties with MDH. During this time, he held medical privileges at MDH and contributed significantly to its operations by serving as the Department of Obstetrics Chair, Department of Medicine Chair, Secretary of the Medical Staff (2011-2012), and a member of the Medical Staff Executive Council (2010-2011).
His leadership extended to his role as Chief of Staff at Beu Health Center since 2012, where he has provided comprehensive medical care to Western Illinois University students. At Beu Health Center, Dr. Waters oversees two nurse practitioners and provides medical oversight for a range of ancillary services, including laboratory testing, x-rays, and alcohol and drug resources.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Waters is a passionate advocate for the well-being of WIU student-athletes, serving as one of their team physicians.

The MDH Family Clinic, located on the second floor of Health Services Building 2 at 515 East Grant Street, welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans. For non-emergency medical needs, the MDH Convenience Clinics offer convenient walk-in appointments. The Macomb Convenience Clinic, located on the first floor of Health Services Building 2, is open seven days a week. The Monmouth Convenience Clinic, situated at 2 AmericInn Way, provides walk-in appointments Monday through Friday.
