MCM after protest day on #17Aug: We showed that freedom in Venezuela is a global cause

Opposition leader María Corina Machado sent a message to all Venezuelans, inside and outside the country, following the worldwide day of protests on Saturday, August 17.

Through his X account, he highlighted “Yesterday we marked a FUNDAMENTAL MILESTONE and a GREAT VICTORY for our struggle.”

“We have shown that the freedom of Venezuela is a WORLDWIDE CAUSE. Citizens from all over the world have accepted the importance of our struggle and will accompany us to the end.”

Below is the full message:

Dear and respected Venezuelans,

Yesterday we marked a FUNDAMENTAL MILESTONE and a GREAT VICTORY for our struggle.

We have shown that Venezuela is UNITED AS A NATION. From the peasant who shouted with his family from his hamlet in the Andes, to the tens of thousands who filled the cities on 5 continents…. There is no distance, nor time that can separate us.

We have shown that the Freedom of Venezuela is a WORLDWIDE CAUSE. Citizens from all over the world have accepted the importance of our struggle and will accompany us to the end.

Every day our strength increases.
We have achieved another objective of our strategy.
New steps and new victories are coming.

Thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets in various cities across the Americas on Saturday in “defense of the truth” and urged the governments of Brazil, Colombia and Mexico to take a clear stance and to pressure the National Electoral Council (CNE), which declared Nicolás Maduro re-elected, to release the disaggregated results of the July 28 elections, which according to the majority opposition were won by Edmundo González Urrutia.

The worldwide marches were called by the largest opposition alliance in Venezuela, the Democratic Unity Platform (PUD), led by María Corina Machado, to demand the truth about the victory in the presidential elections.

It is worth noting that the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) approved by consensus a resolution demanding that the Venezuelan authorities publish the minutes of the elections “expeditiously.”

The non-binding text was submitted on behalf of the United States and co-sponsors Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Suriname and Uruguay.

On the eve of the marches, 22 European Union (EU) nations, including Spain, called for the “immediate publication of all the original minutes” of the elections and the “impartial and independent” verification of the results of those elections, according to a declaration signed in Santo Domingo on Friday.
