Since 2014 Mclusky already active once more – including the live recording Gateway Band gave testimony. Now there is the “double A-side” Unpopular Parts of a Pig and The Digger You Deep (along with the corresponding double B-side) but also new material for the first time.

Despite all the instant euphoria regarding this EP coming out of nowhere (even though it may actually be officially categorized as a single), the 12 minutes that have been built up already feel like they are practically more directly in the canon of Future of the Left and Christian Fitness been transplantable than that they were necessarily under the Mcluskybanners should have been branded.
They certainly deserve the more attention that the four songs are now getting, as boss Andrew Falkous (guitar / singing), Jack Egglestone (drums / singing) and Damien Sayell (bass / singing) inoculate the nasty noise rock an extra portion of post hardcore grant to add the necessary punch.

So yes, something has happened in terms of evolution in just under 20 years: Unpopular Parts of a Pig is grungy rock with recitation bangers that get on the brakes, a bit like a brawl Black Midibut with the patented Falco-Gift, catchy and theatrical. The Digger You Deep shows with massively rumbling bass and nervously staggering guitar as a delirious stomping troublemaker that the sound is also crucial for the current character of the band Fan Learning Difficulties rolls into the viscous groove with a little more horsepower, puts the melodic banter to the test until the drums suddenly light up and the song hits the brakes.
The epilogue That Was My Brain on Elves Above the abysmal cynicism atmosphere, it is limited to a rusty, (un)calm guitar and profound harmony vocals.

The fact that only the first two songs from the EP are likely to find a place on the fourth studio album, which is scheduled to be finished in February 2024, sells the remaining two numbers short, but it doesn’t change the fact that you don’t waste a second on them four bastards probably get a good preliminary impression of what to expect: their absolute masterpiece, which will probably remain unattainable even for themselves Mclusky written a long time ago – but the rest is at least some of the best the genre has to offer.
