Andreas Seidl, the McLaren F1 team representative, is pleased with the progress of the 2022 F1 car MCL36, but admits that there is still “no reference at all” for the relative pace.
In preparation for the completely new technical rules introduced in F1 this year, the majority of F1 teams have completely switched their focus to the 2022 F1 car, which has a radically different concept early in the season.
F1 drivers are beginning to comment on the challenges posed by the next generation F1 cars tested in the simulator. The F1 car, which will be introduced in 2022, will shift from an aerodynamic-dependent philosophy to a grand effect car with the goal of enabling closer racing.
The F1 team is working hard behind the scenes to prepare the 2022 F1 car, but McLaren F1 team leader Andreas Seidl knows exactly where the team stands because there is “no reference at all”. Told Formel1.de that it was difficult.
“Nevertheless, it’s only natural for the team to try to set ambitious and realistic goals,” said Andreas Seidl.
The new car was developed in 2022 with the expectation that the team will be able to work on it immediately, and Andreas Seidl says he is happy with the new regulations of McLaren’s new MCL36.
“From my point of view, I’m very happy with the development I’m looking at right now. The machine is ready for development,” said Andreas Seidl.
“We are really making progress every week in the wind tunnel. We don’t know how much it will ultimately be worth until the first qualifying session in Bahrain.”
“The most important thing for me is that the development of this machine is a step forward once more compared to recent developments.”
According to McLaren CEO Zak Brown, the team has changed its way of operation in recent seasons, combining internal structural changes with £ 550m in financial support.
Together, these factors have improved the working environment for McLaren F1, and Andreas Seidl said he was “confident” that McLaren had the right people to return to F1’s top table.
“More than two years ago, we reset the team significantly in terms of organization and structure,” explained Andreas Seidl.
“We are completely confident that we have all the talent we need to take the next step. Now we just need time. We have to work together every day. No. We have to learn together and grow from what may not be ideally advanced. ”
