Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh won another gold medal at the Paris Olympics by winning the women’s 200m butterfly final on Thursday night (August 1).

She beat her competitors to finish in two minutes, 3.03 seconds, 0.81 seconds faster than American Regan Smith, who took silver. China’s Zhang Yufei took bronze in 2:05.09.

McIntosh, who also won gold in the 400m individual medley on Sunday, smashed the previous Olympic record of 2:03.86 set by Zhang in Tokyo three years ago. “It means a lot. It’s definitely one of my favorite events,” the 17-year-old said, as reported by the Daily Mail. Xinhua.

McIntosh, along with France’s Leon Marchand, is the only swimmer to have secured multiple individual gold medals at the Paris Olympics. He is also one of the favorites in the 200m individual medley.

“I haven’t really thought about it too much at the moment,” McIntosh said of her success in Paris. “Overall, it was a really great Olympics for me, but yeah, I’m not done yet.”

He added: “I will try to rest my brain as much as I do my body and that is the best way to prepare for the next game.”(M-3)
