With great relief, MCI welcomes the increase in funding rates per study place by 10% from the beginning of 2024 announced by Science Minister Martin Polaschek.

Innsbruck (OTS) With the enormous price increases in recent years, science and university operations are facing major financial challenges.
The fact that these problems have been recognized by the federal government and that the impending economic bottlenecks are being countered with additional funds for universities amounting to 500 million euros is an extremely important university and location policy measure,” MCI Rector Andreas Altmann announced in a press release.

Specifically, the Ministry of Finance will provide the science department with an additional total of 500 million euros from 2024, of which around 80% will go to the universities and almost 20% to the technical colleges:
In addition to additional study places in the areas of technology, life sciences, IT & digitalization, this can be used to finance an increase in the funding rates per study place by 10%.”explains the MCI Rector and specifies:
While the increase in funding rates was originally only planned from October 2024, intensive negotiations with the Ministry of Science have now led to this measure being brought forward from the beginning of 2024, which forms a stable financial foundation for the coming year and enables the successful development work to continue.

A high-wage country with a strong social system can only survive in international competition with investments in research, technology and innovation as well as entrepreneurial creativity and performance orientation.
“It deserves respect that the necessary resources are made available for this”Rector Andreas Altmann concludes, not without thanking both department ministers Martin Polaschek and Magnus Brunner as well as all other decision-makers who worked for this result.
