And American media reported that the restaurant decided today, Tuesday, to temporarily close its 850 branches in Russia.
It also quoted the restaurant’s CEO, Chris Kempkinski, in his letter to employees, that closing these stores at the present time “is the right thing to do.”
He confirmed that the company would pledge to continue paying the salaries of 62,000 employees who worked “with their hearts and souls” at McDonald’s, as he said. The CEO also noted that the restaurant’s values state that “the human suffering of Ukraine cannot be ignored”.
Kempinski said it is difficult to know when the company will be able to reopen its branches there.
He pointed out that the situation represents an “extraordinary” challenge for a global brand, noting that “the restaurant works with hundreds of Russian suppliers.” He pointed out that “McDonald’s might receive a major financial hit because of the closure decision.”
