McDonald’s returns to Russia with a new name

The McDonald’s restaurant chain in Russia will resume operations in the country, following it was acquired by Russian businessman Oleg Baruyev in a deal estimated at 1.4 billion dollars.

The new owner of the former “McDonald’s” restaurant chain in Russia announced, before reopening it, today, Sunday, that he chose for it the name “Fkosno e Tochka” (delicious. Point.).

“The new name is Vkosno e Tochka,” Oleg Baruyev, general manager of the new group, said at a press conference in Moscow.

A new company logo was created to replace the golden arches logo for McDonald’s. It is scheduled to open the restaurant located in Pushkin Square, where the first restaurant “McDonald’s” opened, and many gathered in front of it to celebrate in January 1990.

On May 16, the giant American fast food company “McDonald’s” announced that it would exit Russia following the Russian operations in Ukraine.

Three days later, Russian businessman Alexander Govor, who holds a license to “McDonald’s”, bought the chain of 850 restaurants.

“I am very proud of the honor that the development of this company has given me (…). I am ambitious and I plan not only to reopen the 850 restaurants, but also to develop new ones,” Gofour said on Sunday.

Under the terms of the sale, Gofour agreed to keep McDonald’s employees in Russia for at least two years, in addition to financing obligations owed to suppliers, property owners and facilities, according to the US company.

The value of the deal was not disclosed, but when McDonald’s announced its exit from Russia, the latter said it planned to collect a one-time fee of between $1.2 billion and $1.4 billion to write off the investment.

McDonald’s employed 62,000 people in Russia.

Gofor operates 25 restaurants in Siberia. He is a co-founder of Neftekhem Service, an oil refinery company, and a board member of a company that owns the Park Inn hotel and private clinics in Siberia.
