(CNN) — Russia plans to open its own fast-food restaurants on Sunday to replace the iconic McDonald’s, a spokesman for the new managing firm Sistema PBO told CNN on Friday.
The chain’s first 15 restaurants will open in Moscow and the surrounding region on June 12, he said, adding that “openings of other outlets across Russia will follow in the near future.”
According to the press office, the network’s new name and plans for the future will be announced later.
The company’s new logo shared with CNN has “the restaurant’s main symbols” depicted: what are supposed to be two yellow fries sticks and an orange hamburger. The green background, the press office told CNN, symbolizes “the quality of products and services that guests are used to.”
On Sunday, Russia will also celebrate its national day, originally known as Independence Day, in commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty.
McDonald’s decided to leave the country and sell its Russian business following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in line with many other Western companies.
