McDonald’s loyalty program goes exclusively online

The popular fast-food chain has announced the end of its traditional loyalty program, saying establishments will no longer serve drinks in cups with stickers starting in August, according to CTV News.

However, the rewards cards will remain valid until December 31, 2023 and can be redeemed at participating McDonald’s restaurants across Canada.

The move comes as the company launched its online loyalty program via the smartphone app. Thus, customers who buy five drinks will continue to receive a free drink, but through the application, and no longer through the stickers.

“Rewards cards and stickers cannot be transferred to the app and have no cash value,” McDonald’s said.

The restaurant chain’s traditional loyalty program had already ended in 2021 in some cities across Canada, including Ontario and Manitoba.
