From now on, McDonald’s Austria will no longer provide straws with soft drinks. Already in the spring, the disposable plastic lids for cold drinks were replaced by natural fiber drinking lids with an integrated drinking opening and paper straws were only available upon request. By largely eliminating the use of straws, more than 100 tons of waste are saved every year. In the future, paper straws will only be provided with selected drinks in McCafé and milkshakes.
In recent years, packaging such as that for salad and Happy Meal toys, McFlurry and shake cups as well as straws and cutlery have been replaced by paper and cardboard solutions.
