New York (CNN) — McDonald’s Big Mac doubles in size once more.
Starting January 24, the company will reintroduce the Double Big Mac to its menu, which has four pieces of meat instead of the usual two, and will be sold for a limited time in the United States.
McDonald’s briefly had this one on sale special edition burger in March 2020. The Double Big Mac announcement occurred a few days before the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the United States, forcing fast food chains to cut operating hours and reduce offerings of menu, including this burger.
Unlike the previous edition, the 2024 Double Big Mac includes the improvements that McDonald’s announced in 2023 for its main burger offering, including softer buns, adjustments to the grill settings for better cooking and improvements to the way that the cheese melts. Big Macs, in particular, have more sauce.
Limited-time offers are often marketing strategies to generate interest among customers who may be looking for competing alternatives. But there may be more behind this particular release.
Last month, el CEO de McDonald’s, Chris Kempczinski, told CNN that his customers crave bigger burgers and that the chain is “working on that.” Selling a Double Big Mac is an easy way to offer a larger product because it doesn’t require any extra work for employees and is made with existing ingredients.
McDonald’s plan to create larger burgers comes at a time when many customers look for ways to spend lessand an expensive McDonald’s hamburger has become something of a symbol of inflation.
But the burger, even though it’s bigger, shouldn’t empty your bank account. “We believe we will be able to offer a large, great-tasting burger at a value greater than what we [los clientes] can get anywhere else,” Kempczinski said.
McDonald’s has sold different versions of the Big Mac in the past. In 2017 and 2018, it sold the Grand Mac and Mac Jr. Although the Grand Mac used two burger patties, they were larger than the regular patties in a traditional Big Mac and came on a larger bun.
