The Edmonton Oilers took a 3-1 series lead once morest the Calgary Flames with a 5-3 victory Tuesday night at Rogers Place.
The locals opened the scoring in the 21st second of the duel as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins took advantage of a blunder by goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom behind his net. Then, Zach Hyman doubled his team’s lead midway through the first twenty on a power play. Evander Kane then scored his 11th of the playoffs as the Oilers retired to the locker room with a 3-0 lead following one period.
The Flames, however, came from behind in the second with two goals in just 36 seconds courtesy of Elias Lindholm and Mikael Backlund. Then, in the third period, defenseman Rasmus Andersson surprised Mike Smith with a shot from his own territory to tie the game at 3-3.
But, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins responded moments later with his second of the game to give the Oilers a one-goal lead. Evander Kane then nailed the visitors’ coffin by scoring into an empty net.
Although they didn’t hit the back of the net, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl finished the game with two and three assists respectively.
Jacob Markstrom didn’t have his best outing giving up four times on 25 shots. Mike Smith completed the game for him with 29 saves.
The series now moves to Calgary where the next matchup will be presented on Wednesday. This meeting will also be broadcast on TVA Sports from 9:30 p.m.
