Kolkata: Former IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders have announced Chandrakant Pandit as their new coach. Indian domestic cricket legend Pandit was appointed to fill the vacant position when Brendon McCullum, who was the coach of the team, became the coach of the England Test team. KKR confirmed the appointment through Twitter.
Madhya Pradesh won the Ranji Trophy last season under Pandit’s tutelage. It was Pandit’s tactics that made Vidarbha win the Ranji Trophy in 2018 and 2019. He has also coached Indian regional cricket giants Mumbai.
A wicketkeeper-batsman, Pandit has played 5 Tests and 36 ODIs for India. Pandit has the best track record in domestic cricket. He has scored more than 8000 runs at a batting average of 48.00.
Pandit responded that he sees it as a great opportunity and recognition to coach Kolkata. Kolkata is a two-time IPL champion team. The team won the title in 2012 and 2014. Kolkata reached the final in 2021 but lost to Chennai.
